presently 16 partners, the number is still growing

Contents and objectives of the cluster's activity:

Knowledge and technology transfer is the basis for emergence of
innovations and the development of the regional economy.
They are essential aspects for the realisation of a European energy
policy and the aims of the Lisbon strategy for more growth,
competition and employment in the EU. In order to reduce the
emission of greenhouse gases by least 20% by 2020 and to sink
the energy consumption in the EU by 20% by 2020 (plan of action for
energy efficiency) concrete measures must be undertaken to increase
the proportion of a renewable energy mixture in Europe by 20% within
the same time frame. Hereby technologies for restoration and
development of buildings with a view to an economical balance with
efficient heating and cooling installations playing an important role.
A detailed examination is worthwhile because approximately 40% of
our energy consumption is connected with the buildings that we use.
Interdisciplinary measures are necessary, in order to take into account
all aspects of resource efficiency in buildings. For this reason
cooperation in networks (clusters) comprising of scientists, engineers,
business, architects, interest groups, communal representatives and
other market actors, creates a greater chance challenge for the
development of innovations. A regional coalition like this one for Berlin-
Brandenburg can have an advantage in this respect. Last but not least
these regional clusters can also offer a good basis for the cooperating
partners to open up European and international markets. The initiator of
LEBEN the Environmental office for Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. possess a
great deal of experience in cross boarder cooperation with
environmental organisations, institutions, universities ad research
institutions through joint projects within the EU research framework
program, the EFRE and other national and regional programs. A further
service witch is also an important basis for the formation of this cluster
and the international orientation is the “International contact database
for ecological organisations” offered on the Ubb e.V. website
(www.ubb.de); other cluster members also have international
experience.
The main target for LEBEN is the cooperation with other clusters and
project consortiums within the European programs in the area of
building resources and efficiency improvement.
Thereby a concrete joint research program with the Polish cluster from
Schlesien: TEROMAX is planed.
The aims of this cooperation are:
- Support and exchange of knowledge and technology transfers
between the regions of Schlesien and Brandenburg and
also to assess the market conditions for innovations
- estimate the scientific and technical usage in practice and portrayal
of the barriers for realisation of innovations and feasibility analysis
- Improvement and development of new national and cross border
  business relationships
- Integration of research and business through joint projects
and trans-national research and development (R&D) cooperation
The following actions are envisaged:
- the organisation of workshops, conferences, exhibitions, reciprocal
visits of undertakings and “Best practice examples”
- publication of the competence spectrum of the project partners and
new developments/research results and also links to other platforms,
clusters initiatives and events on project website the formation of
consortiums for mutual technology development in the sense of a
consolidated approach to resource efficient building and in the
  restoration of existing buildings
- the development of marketable concepts with individual and industrial
building systems dependent on the requirements and with the
  participation of scientists and researchers
- the development of finance strategies
